New Italian wines to showcase Italy's sense of cutting edge style.

From Click Wine Group, the Seattle-based importer that brought America Fat Bastard (France), Mad Dogs & Englishmen (Spain) and most recently Root 1 (Chile), comes yet another concept wine: Bootleg, a fivesome of cleverly packaged vini from the boot and leg of Italy.

 Keen to demystify wine by using simple labels and fun, pronounceable names, Click founder and CEO Peter Click, who specializes in importing Australian wines, says Bootleg fits into Italy’s image of a country known for fashion, design and fast cars. So it was against the backdrop of New York’s Fall Fashion Week that Click launched the Bootleg collection, complete with a Meatpacking District fashion show featuring couture and ready-to-wear items from 20-year-old, up-and-coming designer Holly Kristen.

 “Italy’s great wines are synonymous with romance, picturesque villas and rolling vineyards displayed on dated labels. Missing has been Italy’s reputation for cutting edge fashion, racy cars and amazing architecture. We feel Bootleg represents Italian wines with a refreshing new look,” said Click in announcing the wines.

 The wines—a Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio, Chianti, Grand Tuscan and Southern Blend—are all outfitted in shrink wrapping that looks like leather. A faux zipper runs the length of each bottle, which sports a mock “Made in Italy” label.

 The estates that produced the wines are Tenuta Setten (Pinot Grigio), Trevisiol Estate (Sauvignon Blanc), Castello Sonnino (Chianti); Terre Del Grico (Southern Red) and Villa Trasqua (Grand Tuscan). Suggested price for the first four is $15; the Grand Tuscan will sell for $20.
