Who Pays $5000 for a Burger? In a world full of over-indulgence, would you order up a burger for $5,000? Chef Hubert Keller has a nice little place named Fleur de Lys at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino where you can dine on some the world’s best French fare—and it just so happens to be the place where a burger can set you back 5 Large.
So, here’s the skinny—Keller’s burger is made from Kobe beef stuffed with black truffles, served on truffle brioche and garnished with a special sauce of truffles. Wow. So this burger should be expensive considering the use of all of those delicious black truffles, but is it still worth 5 grand?
Well, there is one more thing that comes with it—a bottle of 1995 Château Pétrus. A bottle of Pétrus? Yes! This is the bottle that oenophiles dream of, one that shakes us to the core just thinking about it. Most of us have never even seen a bottle in person, let alone have the opportunity to taste it.
Now, let’s answer my question. Who pays $5,000 for a burger? This writer would, if I ever hit the not-so-loose slots in Vegas, that is. And, for one simple reason: just to say I did. Of course, after I licked my plate and glassware clean, since I couldn’t leave a single drop or crumb behind, I would crawl under the covers of my bed, clenching my gift, an Ichendorf Brunello glass (well they should give you some sort of memorbilia for this, right?) and drift off to sleep with bottles of Pétrus dancing in my head.
So indulge away my follow food and wine lovers, this is worth the price.
