E&J Gallo and Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia today announced the creation of a new line of wines dubbed after the lifestyle diva.
“Martha Stewart Vintage” will be rolled out in January, 2008, at $15 a bottle, in six U.S. cities: Atlanta, GA; Boston, MA; Charlotte, NC; Denver, CO; Phoenix, AZ and Portland, OR. Production of 15,000 cases will be divided between Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot, all with a Sonoma County appellation.
The six cities are where Stewart has her strongest fan base, according to sources.
The wines will bear Stewart’s own personal style, says Michael J. Heintz, a Gallo spokesperson. “She tasted through blends with our winemakers in Healdsburg, and stylistically, the wines will be what she wanted.”
Stewart issued this statement: “As a former caterer and a lifelong hostess, I understand the important role wine can play at a gathering. The wines were crafted with great care and attention to every detail. This venture is a natural outgrowth of the friendship I’ve enjoyed with the Gallo family based on our mutual passion for food, wine and entertaining.”
No details are yet available on the label, whose design is still being finished, according to Heintz.
The Gallo winery and Gallo family have had a long relationship with Stewart and her company. Gallo has advertised such brands as Turning Leaf and Gallo Family Vineyards in Stewart’s magazines.
