New York City has its fair share of innovative, occasionally over-the-top foodie gimmicks, from wacky décor themes to $100 hamburgers to ice cream sundaes with jewelry. Next on the bizarre restaurant radar: wine served in baby bottles. Manhattanites can now drink wine and beer in rubber-tipped containers—normally reserved for infant formula—at La Cave des Fondus, a newly opened fondue restaurant in Nolita.

Jacques Ouari, owner of two namesake bistros in Manhattan (one of which is located above La Cave des Fondus), is the brains behind this establishment, modeled after Le Refuge des Fondus, a Parisian fondue house that also forgoes stemware in favor of “biberons.” There, a financial rationale exists as Parisian restaurateurs are required to pay tax on wine served in glassware. In Manhattan no such tax exists, and hesitant La Cave patrons can still nurse their drinks, which range from $7 to $12, from standard glasses. Whether this type of bottle service will cross the threshold, from onetime stunt to hardened restaurant trend remains to be seen.
