There was no question about Marcello Fiorentino Jr. following his parents into the family business. The elder Fiorentinos—having previously worked in restaurants on two continents and having earned a four-star rating for their New York eatery, from no less than Craig Claiborne—came out of retirement in 1986 to open La Sirena. The restaurant won raves from the start, and today, Marcello Jr. works in his late father’s stead overseeing both kitchen and the cellar, while his wife, Dianne, works the dining room. The latter, renovated in 2008, is eclectic Italian, with Murano glass lighting, ironwork, slate and a newly raised ceiling. The cuisine is still classic Italian—simple, straightforward and delicious. Try the Whole Roasted Yellowtail Snapper for Two, paired with Bruno Giacosa’s 2007 Roero Arneis.
