Everything’s up to date in Kansas City, and this elegant steakhouse and seafood restaurant in the city’s renovated Union Station is a “prime” example. The building’s 25-foot ceilings and neoclassical Golden-Age-of-Railroads design give Pierpont’s a grandeur befitting its namesake, railroad mogul J. Pierpont Morgan. The Anderson Restaurant Group, Pierpont’s parent company, gives wine pride-of-place, with 11 display cellars throughout the labyrinth of public and private dining rooms. Manager/sommelier Charles Peach discounts wine throughout the month, and he’s organizing a Connoisseur’s Club. Executive Chef Patrick Williams enlivens the classic steakhouse menu with innovative sauces and embellishments. Try his Filet Pierpont topped with a Maytag blue cheese-cream cheese blend, drizzled with a chocolate and aged balsamic sauce, paired with a 2004 or 2005 Sterling Vineyards Three Palm Merlot.
