Australia’s First Families of Wine

A new organization seeks to counter down-market, cheap and cheerful stereotypes of Australian wine.

Twelve of Australia’s pioneering wine families have formed a new organization aimed at promoting the distinctiveness and quality of Australian wines. Australia’s First Families of Wine (AFFW) will officially launch on August 31 in Sydney, but will hold additional events in export countries in an attempt to counter down-market, cheap and cheerful stereotypes of Australian wine.

“There have been some recent stories on the subject of Australian wine quality that we all believe, to put it bluntly, are complete rubbish,” said the organization’s founding chairman, Alister Purbrick of Tahbilk.

The initial members of AFFW are:
