Summertime Brunch Cocktails

Fresh, fizzy concoctions for languid, lazy days.

Among the many reasons to love brunch are the cocktails: Bloody Mary’s, Mimosas and other fun, refreshing concoctions typically not found on evening drinks menus.

And while the midday breakfast is perennially popular, there’s something so special about summertime brunch, when cafe tables spill out onto sidewalks and the sunny, languid days pair perfectly with ice-cold drinks, like the Blooming Fizz and Cherry Chiller listed below. Created by Kim Haasarud of the beverage consultancy Liquid Architecture for Moët & Chandon Champagne, these cocktails are fruity, fizzy and well-suited for anyone planning an at-home summertime brunch soiree.

Blooming Fizz
By Kim Haasarud, Liquid Architecture

1 scoop lemon sorbet, softened
1 oz St. Germain Elderflower liqueur
Moët & Chandon Impérial champagne
Edible flowers, for garnish

Combine the lemon sorbet, softened, in a cocktail shaker with the elderflower liqueur. Add ice and shake vigorously. Strain into a champagne flute and top with Moët & Chandon Impérial. Top with edible flowers, for garnish.

Cherry Chiller

2 basil leaves, sliced into thin strips
3 pitted bing cherries, plus 2 extra for garnish
1/2 oz gin (i.e. Plymouth)
1/2 oz simple syrup
1/2 oz lime juice
3-4 oz Moët & Chandon Rose Imperial

Combine the basil, cherries, lime juice, gin and simple syrup in a mixing glass. Muddle. Top with ice and shake vigorously. Pour contents into a highball glass and top with Moët & Chandon Rose Imperial.
