Patrick Campbell, founder of Laurel Glen Vineyard, a Sonoma producer known for Cabernet Sauvignons, sold the winery to a group of investors led by wine-industry veteran Bettina Sichel. Some industry insiders heralded the move as “the end of an era.”
More American drinkers are turning to Sherry, according to the New York Times. It’s driven by bars mixing Sherry into creative high-end cocktails and specialty shops and restaurant sommeliers pushing the wine.
Brown-Forman Corporation posted that a 30% rise in quarterly profit was propelled by strong demand abroad. The company also said it was seeing improvement in the United States, where an economic downturn had dampened consumers’ drinking habits.
