In an age when custom bitters and unusual infusions are de rigueur in cocktail bars around the world, it’s refreshing to see a less-is-more approach emerge from one of Europe’s top mixologists. Dimi Lezinska, Grey Goose Global Brand Ambassador, abides by a clean and lean cocktail philosophy that’s reflected in this streamlined drink (minus, of course, the vodka-soaked cherries). It’s the mixer used to toast guests of Grey Goose’s Le Voyage trips to France, which explore the vodka-making process from wheat field to bottle.
“The Graduate is a toast to those who have ‘graduated’ from the program with a deeper appreciation of the spirit,” says Lezinska. “What better way to celebrate?”
1½ ounces La Poire Grey Goose Vodka
1 ounce Visciolata del Cardinale Cherry Dessert Wine
½ ounce Noilly Prat Ambré Vermouth
½ ounce Martini Bitters
Dash of Scrappy’s Bitters Lavender
Combine the vodka, dessert wine, vermouth and bitters in a mixing glass filled with ice, and stir well. Finely strain into a chilled coupette (or margarita) glass, and garnish with a vodka soaked cherry (right).
For the cherries:
In a large sealable container, combine a pint of clean Basque black cherries with 1 liter of Grey Goose La Poire Vodka. Seal the container, and store it in a cool, dry place for 5 days.
