Learn what your state excise tax rate is on a bottle of booze using this easy-to-read map.

The Tax Foundation takes a look at state excise taxes on—you guessed it—wine. With a tax rate of $3.16 per gallon, Kentucky taxes wine more heavily than any other state, and Louisiana has the lowest rate at $0.11 per gallon. Five states—Mississippi, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Utah and Wyoming—are states where the government oversees all sales, and products can be subject to ad valorem mark-up and excise taxes. Check out this map to learn more about what your state has in store for your next bottle purchase.
