C. Mondavi & Family wines announced three new appointments in conjunction with the launch of the company’s hospitality center. Filling the three positions are Kathy DeVillers as chief financial officer, Jim Russell as vice president of national sales and Pamela Hiett as vice president of guest services and direct sales.
Months after the LGBT community called for a boycott of its products, Stoli Group USA announced a three-year partnership with the LA Gay & Lesbian Center. The company is donating $300,000 to the Center’s Leadership Lab, a program that helps current and future LGBT leaders to develop leadership skills.
Flora Springs Winery & Vineyard appointed wine-industry executive Steve Tamburelli as chief operating officer. Reporting to President and proprietor John Komes, Tamburelli will oversee all winery operations, including winemaking, production, marketing and sales. For the past 11 years, Tamburelli served as general manager for Chappellet Vineyard & Winery.
Production teams in the United Kingdom and France are at work on a documentary film following the ignominious rise and fall of convicted wine fraudster Rudy Kurniawan. The film, titled Sour Grapes, is set to be completed by the end of the year. It features Burgundy wine producer Laurent Ponsot, whose Domaine Ponsot wines were among those Kurniawan counterfeited and sold to fine wine collectors.
Brooklyn-based craft distiller Greenhook Ginsmiths are making a 19th century-style Old Tom gin, slated for release this fall. The distiller’s Old Tom is made with a pot-distilled corn base, which is then sweetened, aged in Bourbon barrels for one year and finished in Oloroso Sherry casks.
