In a statement to customers, Spanish wine estate Vega Sicilia announced it will not be releasing its 2010 Ribera del Duero-based Alion bottling, citing sediment in the bottle. The problems affect more than 500,000 bottles of wine and will cost the winery an estimated $13 million. A similar issue is said to affect Vega Sicilia’s 2009 Pintia, though it "has not been equally present in all bottles." The estate suggests decanting, but is also offering to replace affected 2009 bottles with its 2008 bottling or an advance opportunity to purchase its 2010 vintage. Wine Enthusiast contributing editor and reviewer Michael Schachner previously rated the 2009 Pintia 93 points.
