UJA Honors Moët-Hennessy’s Jim Clerkin, Winemaker Milla Handley Steps Down

NEW YORK—The UJA-Federation of New York’s Wine & Spirits Division will honor Jim Clerkin, president and CEO of Moêt-Hennessy North America with the Samuel Bronfman Memorial Award on June 22 at The Pierre in New York City.

Clerkin has more than 35 years of experience in the wine and spirits industry. Under his direction, many liquor brands in both the United States and abroad have gained leading market-share positions and have greatly increased profitability.

Prior to joining Moët Hennessy (LVMH), Clerkin served in various roles at Guinness, Grand Metropolitan and Allied Domecq.

Pioneering Anderson Valley Vintner Milla Handley Retires

ANDERSON VALLEY, Calif.-Milla Handley, artisan winemaker and owner of Handley Cellars, is retiring after 40 years and will be handing the winery to her two daughters, Lula McClellan and Megan Handley WarrenRandy Schock will be promoted to head winemaker at the Mendocino winery.

Handley, one of the first women to graduate in Fermentation Science at the University of California at Davis in 1978, has spent 36 years creating her wine brands that are true toplace. After working with Richard Arrowood at Chateau St. Jean and Jed Steele at Edmeades, she decided to start her own brand from what was then the largely unchartered winemaking territory of Mendocino County’s Anderson Valley.
