Wine Market Council announced that industry veteran Steve Burns was named president of the non-profit trade association. Burns will replace 20-year WMC President John Gillespie, who is retiring from the position at the end of November. Burns and Gillespie will work together for a smooth transition.

“I am honored to join the Wine Market Council team, and I look forward to building on the great work done by John Gillespie over the last two decades,” Burns said. “We have incredibly compelling research in the pipeline now more than ever, and I look forward to working with the Wine Market Council team to provide our members with wine market insights and data that is essential to their marketing and brand positioning goals.”

The WMC, a non-profit trade association, provides its proprietary research to association members. Upcoming research projects include the Annual High Frequency Wine Consumer Survey with a Special Topic on Premiumization (December 2017), the Occasional Wine Drinker Survey (January 2018) and The Changing World of Retail Wine Shopping Survey (March 2018).

Bacardi names Doyle President – Incubation Brands and Commercial Development

Bacardi announced that industry veteran Maurice Doyle, 51, is returning to the largest privately held spirits company in the world as president – Incubation Brands and Global Commercial Development.

In his new position, he is expected to improve the sales of some of Bacardi’s smaller brands such as Angel’s Envy, St-Germain and Leblon.

Doyle worked 17 years in travel retail with Bacardi in commercial and marketing roles before leaving in 2009. Since then, he served as chief marketing officer at William Grant & Sons, and most recently, he was chief operating officer for Suntory’s non-alcoholic division for Africa, Middle East & Caribbean.

Beer Importer USB Names Justin Fisch President

U.S. Beverage (USB), the large independent beer importer, announces today Justin Fisch has been promoted to the position of president.

Fisch joined USB in 2002 and recently served as vice president and general manager, acting as primary contact for all brewery suppliers, and overseeing sales and marketing activities across the company. In his new role, Fisch will manage all operational responsibilities, including sales, marketing, finance and administration for the company. The company was founded by his father, CEO & former president, Joseph Fisch 20 years ago.
