Game of Thrones-Inspired Beer Released

Something is brewing in Westeros.

Tyrion Lannister, the Imp in HBO’s hit show Game of Thrones, once said, “Everything’s better with some wine in the belly.” While Wine Enthusiast is inclined to agree, the diminutive Lion may soon be changing his tune: In advance of the third-season premiere of the critically acclaimed drama, Brewery Ommegang and HBO have partnered up to release a series of show-inspired brews.

The first release, the Iron Throne Blonde Ale, is a nod to the scheming golden-haired brood of House Lannister.

“With a Lannister currently on the throne, it made sense to do a delicate, but piercing Golden Blonde Ale with Noble hops,” said Phil Leinhart, brewmaster at Brewery Ommegang, in a statement. “Iron Throne is certainly fair in color and soft in appearance, yet it still possesses a complexity and bite to be on guard for.”

Iron Throne Blonde Ale (abv 6.5%) will be nationally available in stores this week, sold for $8.50 for a 750ml bottle. The second beer in the series, rumored to be named Take the Black, is expected to be released in the fall.
