Set amidst 90 acres of vineyards in one of the country's most lush winegrowing regions, this is an oenophile's dream. In August 2008, owners Don and Rhonda Carano brought Chef Thomas Schmidt on board. Schmidt brings a European flair to the bounty of Sonoma, while continuing to embrace the cooking style of namesake John Ash. Inside the restaurant, soft lighting and tapestry-covered banquettes inspire languid dining; the French country sun porch offers lush garden views. Jennifer Warfel, wine and beverage director and a member of the Wine Educator Guild, uses her knowledge to continually shore up the collection of Sonoma wines. After a meal of dungeness crab cakes with serrano chili aoli and Ferrari-Carano Fumé Blanc, guests can saunter back to their room in the Vintner's Inn.
