Booze Lagoon

Thai Phraya Rum comes to America in time for summer.

Unlike its molasses-heavy Caribbean counterparts, this Thai rum has enticing citrus and creamy vanilla notes pepped up with generous doses of black pepper and baking spice.

The makers of the rum say this bounty of curious complex flavors and aromas are derived in large part from the exotic way the rum is matured: After the raw booze is made from native sugar cane (pictured), it’s aged in barrels that rest in warehouses located directly over cooling, natural lagoons. The packaging is exotic, too—a tall, slender bottle overlaid with tactile gold metal latticework.

It’s an eye-catching (and tasty) gift to bring on your next couple’s summer escape, perfect for adding sophisticated nuance to those frozen beach drinks.
