California’s 2010 Grape Crush Report revealed that a total of 3.58 million tons of wine grapes were crushed last year. This is fewer than was crushed in 2009, but more than industry experts had projected.

In related news, the Napa Valley may become cooler as a consequence of climate change, according to a new in-depth study carried out for the Napa Valley Vintners. The information contradicts a 2006 study that suggested the area would soon become too warm to produce fine wine.

Diageo reported that economic pressures in Europe triggered a 13% fall in net sales, offsetting recovering volumes in fiscal first-half sales in North America and strong growth in Asia.

While the USA produces many spirits, Tito’s Vodka became the first and only “Made in USA” certified spirit.

Lion Nathan USA, an importer and producer of Australian and New Zealand wines, acquired Sonoma-based MacRostie Winery and Vineyards for an undisclosed amount.
