Diageo announced the purchase of Turkish spirits company Mey Içki for $2.1 billion. The spirits producer and distributor holds the leading position in Raki—an anise-flavored spirit often served as an apéritif—arguably the biggest spirits category in Turkey.

Despite a devastating earthquake in Christchurch, New Zealand, wine producers in the Canterbury region were largely unaffected.

U.S. wine exports rebounded to hit a record high of $1.14 billion in 2010, according to the California Wine Institute. Most of that wine was exported to European countries, particularly the U.K., followed by Hong Kong.

More Americans than ever before are drinking wine at least once a month, though they’re becoming increasingly price-conscious, according to new research published by Wine Intelligence, a market research organization focused on the wine sector. The study found that around 80 million Americans sip wine every month, up 9% since 2009.

Marketing firm Brand Action Team announced the launch of ImporterConnect, a new service available to wine and spirit suppliers to help them find and qualify prospective importers in the U.S.
