Cellar Selection Bollinger 1996 R.D. Extra Brut  97 Bollinger 1996 R.D. Extra Brut (Champagne); $190. The Bollinger R.D. (recently disgorged) is Bollinger's answer to a prestige cuvée. This is a beautifully balanced wine, keeping its acidity, intensity and structure all in balance. It is still so young; could age for years.
Editors' Choice  Santa Barbara Winery 2001 Lafond Vineyard Late Harvest Sauvignon Blanc 95 Santa Barbara Winery 2001 Lafond Vineyard Late Harvest Sauvignon Blanc (Santa Ynez Valley); $16/375 ml. Picked at 38° brix, with residual sugar of 12.5%, this is a very sweet wine. It has an unctuous, honeyed texture, but super-high acidity breaks it up.
Best Buy  Punto Final 2004 Malbec 91 Punto Final 2004 Malbec (Perdriel); $11. An excellent, fully ripe and totally structured wine. Ripe, thick and modern, but made right. Perfect with steak.
