5 Questions for Sheryl Crow

She rocks stadiums, eats applesauce with her kids and her love of wine has led to a partnership with a Sonoma winery to raise money for breast cancer patients.

The Notes of Hope program with Chateau St. Jean allows folks to support breast cancer via drinking wine, yes?
Right. The winery is donating $1 from every bottle of wine sold during October to breast cancer charities. So I encourage people to enjoy great wine while supporting a great cause. As a survivor, you feel a connection with other women in similar circumstances, and anything I can do to help bring awareness to the cause is good, so I’m thrilled to be working with Chateau St. Jean.

Besides Chateau St. Jean, what’s in your cellar at home in Nashville?
I love sharing wine, so I keep a nice array. I want my selections to be varied, so if a guest asks for it—I like to have it available!

What are your favorite foods right now? What’s the most adventurous thing you’ve eaten in the last year?
I’m on tour with Rascal Flatts now and I love trying out local restaurants. I’m really enjoying the farm-to-table movement, and eating fresh food that’s sustainably farmed, and in season. I’m usually dining with my kids, so it doesn’t get too adventurous. Does applesauce count?

What’s the first meal you make at home when you get back from the road—and what’s the wine?
Comfort food like homemade mac ’n’ cheese,  fresh salad that my kids can help pick the veggies for. I also love to entertain, and cooking for my friends and family when I get off the road is very relaxing. I might try a recipe from my If It Makes You Healthy cookbook, like a summer vegetable panini and pair it with a nice glass of chilled white, like a Pinot Gris or Chardonnay.

What are your favorite spots for wining and dining in Nashville?
It’s a wonderful place to call home, and the food and wine scene is booming with ingenious chefs and cuisine that’s making Nashville a food destination. Some of my favorite spots are The Catbird Seat, Tandy Wilson’s City House and Lockeland Table. And where there is excellent food here, there is excellent wine. Nashville really is a terrific city to explore both.
