835 Wines Compete for the New York Wine & Food Classic Governor’s Cup

At the 2014 New York Wine & Food Classic competition, 835 wines, 20 hard ciders and eight spirits competed for awards based on blind tastings by 22 judges. New York Lieutenant Governor Duffy presented the top prize, the 2014 Governor’s Cup, to Chateau Lafayette Reneau 2013 Semi-Dry Riesling from the Finger Lakes. Macari Vineyards & Winery from Long Island won the Winery of the Year award.
On August 13, Fundovino, a new crowdfunding Web site devoted to the wine-related businesses and projects, launched in France and the United States. The company works like Kickstarter, allowing private citizens to fund and support industry causes. Not strictly limited to wine and winemaking, the projects also encompass wine tourism, culture and art, plus spirits and other types of alcohol production.
HALL Wines has been awarded a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold Certification for its HALL St. Helena modern tasting room and high-tech production facility. The accolade is the second LEED Gold award for the HALL Wines St. Helena property, which was recognized as the first winery in California to earn LEED Gold for its production facility in 2009.
For the first time in its 15-year history, The Naples Winter Wine Festival (NWWF)—scheduled for January 23-25, 2015—will kick off its event with a wine tasting and luncheon with Olivier Krug of Champagne’s House of Krug January. Krug will walk guests through the producer’s history with five pours of Champagne, followed by a multi-course lunch.
Ponzi Vineyards, established in 1970 by Dick and Nancy Ponzi, has named Anna Maria Ponzi president. Maria, who owns and operates the business with her sister, Winemaker Luisa Ponzi, has directed the company’s sales and marketing programs for more than 20 years.
