October is “Adopt A Shelter Dog Month,” and these U.S. bars are inviting drinkers and dogs to imbibe for a good cause. Whether you call them “Yappy Hours” or “Mutts and Martinis,” dog lovers know how to imbibe in style! In honor of man’s best friend, and in conjunction with the ASPCA’s “Adopt A Shelter Dog Month” (held during the month of October), here are our top picks for fun, fido-friendly fêtes around the country.

Charleston, SC: O’Brion’s Pub and Grille (520 Folly Rd)
Every Thursday from 4-7pm, dogs and their people can let loose at O’Brion’s Pub and Grille (520 Folly Rd on James Island)—a festive, casual beer bar where potential owners can also meet adoptable dogs from 4-6pm. This Irish Pub also features live music daily, a Trivia Night and All-You-Can-Eat Wings on Mondays (just don’t bring Fido on this night—we can only imagine the begging).

New Orleans, LA: Loews Hotel (300 Poydras St)
This luxury hotel chain officially loves pets—guests and their dogs receive a special room service menu (which even includes a vegetarian option for meat-free mutts), pet place mats, water and food bowls and specialized bedding, along with a complimentary bag of pet treats and a toy. A list of dog-friendly bars, restaurants and pet “attractions” is also provided to guests free of charge. Special “Canines and Cocktails” events are held throughout the year at Loews Hotel locations nationwide-check website for details.

Austin, TX: Irie Bean Coffee Bar (2310 S. Lamar Blvd)
Located in the music-centric city of Austin, this laid-back beer and java bar hosts a Yappy Hour on the last Friday of every month from 6-9pm. Local dog lovers can meet new pooches and their owners, which is a fun and educational event featuring dog training tip sessions, doggy pedicures and opportunities to buy dog gear. Live music (typically by the Texas Blues Heelers) sets the mood for drink specials on coffee and beer ($2 domestics, $3 imports).

Long Beach, CA: Hotel Maya (700 Queensway Dr)
This upscale waterfront hotel in Long Beach offers a monthly “Mutts and Mojitos” night (from 6:30-9:30pm) benefiting local shelters. Guests can bring pets, sip mojitos and donate toys (and other much-needed dog-care items) which are matched by the KONG dog toy company. Want to pose for a pic with your pooch? Bark Pet Photography is there to snap candids of your canine.

Alexandria, VA: Hotel Monaco (480 King St)
Kimpton Hotels are known for their dog-friendly policies, but this upscale Alexandria hotel features a Doggie Happy Hour twice a week. Located just minutes from Washington, D.C., each Tuesday and Thursday from 5-8pm, Hotel Monaco serves up complimentary gourmet dog treats (along with fresh water to pets) in its brick courtyard, while owners can sip cocktails and snack on farm-fresh hors d’oeuvres from adjacent Jackson 20 restaurant. Don’t miss the Doggie Happy Hour Costume Contest held each Halloween.

That is fantastic! I am a huge animal love and the ASPCA is a great organization. Why isn't there one of those in NYC where people are insane about their dogs? Thanks for posting this.
