Last week Congress held a hearing on H.R. 5034, the bill that would give states stronger powers to restrict and possibly block direct shipping of wine. Experts said the bill’s chances of passing in 2010 look slim, but supports are expected to continue efforts next year.
In French supermarkets, customers can now pump their own wine from 500 and one-thousand liter tanks into containers of any size. Regulations permitting, the concept is expected to arrive in the U.S. within a year.

A beer designed for space tourists, a flavor-enhanced stout made especially to be consumed in space, is about to undergo testing in a near-weightless environment. The brew is a team effort from Saber Astronautics Australia and the 4-Pines Brewing Company (a.k.a. Vostok Pty Ltd).
