According to the Scotch Whisky Association, Scotch exports to the U.S. rose by 21% in volume (equivalent of 56 million bottles) as value climbed 34% to £234 million, or $380 million. Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Germany, South Africa and United Arab Emirates also posted double-digit value growth for Scotch in the first six months of the year.

Davide Campari-Milano SpA says sales and earnings increased in the first nine months of the year, perpetuated by demand for spirits brands, including Skyy vodka and Aperol.

Washington’s Liquor Control Board voted to ban sales of high-alcohol energy drinks following the hospitalization of nine students in the state last month. Washington is the second state to outlaw the beverages; Michigan banned them earlier this month. 

Boston Beer Company Inc.'s Samuel Adams is launching Infinium, a limited edition, Champagne-like beer brew later this month to prove that beer can be worthy of a New Year’s toast.

Experts said that stratospheric prices fetched at a Sotheby’s auction of Chateau Lafite in Hong Kong last week were “insane” and not indicative of the market.

The Culinary Institute of America announced that its 2011 Vintners Hall of Fame inductees will be Ravenswood founder Joel Peterson; UC Davis Professor of Enology, Emeritus Vernon Singleton; and Bob Trinchero, owner of Sutter Home Winery and Trinchero Napa Valley.  In addition, Chalone Vineyards winemaker Richard Graff and August Sebastiani, the father of the eponymous Sonoma winery, will be inducted as Pioneers. The “Pioneer” category recognizes those who made significant contributions to the California wine industry.
