Who: Dr. Brent Ridge and former advertising executive, Josh Kilmer-Purcell, are city dwellers-turned-country farmers, and stars of the reality TV series on Planet Green, The Fabulous Beekman Boys, which chronicles the creation of their Beekman 1802 line of goat milk soap, skincare products, gourmet food, cheese and handicrafts. The duo also authored The Beekman 1802 Heirloom Cookbook (Sterling Epicure, $25).

Where: Our midtown kitchen, New York City

Favorite pairing of the night: Dinastia’s 2010 Vivanco Blanco, a white blend of Viura, Malvasia and Tempranillo Blanco from Rioja, with albóndigas, or pork meatballs in a saffron and almond sauce. “I always believe that opposites attract, and the saltiness of the meatballs was perfect with the bright flavors and residual sweetness of the wine,” says Ridge.

For Kilmer-Purcell, the Palliser Estate’s 2008 Pinot Noir from Martinborough, New Zealand, paired best with oven-roasted beets with blood orange and chèvre. “The citrus component of the Pinot Noir works really well with the blood orange, and the earthier aspects of the wine match the earthy flavor of the beets and goat cheese.”

Most interesting person they have had dinner with: Françoise Fabian, the French film actress best known for her roles in My Night at Maud’s and Belle de Jour. “We were lucky enough to have dinner with her (and our uncles Arthur and Bob) at La Colombe d’Or in the South of France.”

Quote of the night: “We consider ourselves lucky to learn from people who are experts. It’s like when we arrived in Sharon Springs, New York, we learned so much from our neighbors and fellow farmers," says Dr. Ridge.

Upcoming plans include: Spending February in the barn, as 100 new kids are born! “We’re going to be in the pens as the babies are born. It’s going to be an amazing sight. It’s really beautiful to see,” says Kilmer-Purcell.
