Celebrity Sips: Wines with Star Power

These accomplished athletes, actors and entertainers have different talents, but they all share a passion for enjoying—and making—wines that shine.

Drew Barrymore

Barrymore Wines

The multitalented Barrymore’s credits include acting, directing and producing, not to mention earning many awards, including a Golden Globe in 2010. Getting married and becoming pregnant in 2012, Barrymore created something to toast those milestones: the launch of Barrymore Wines. The first release is a Pinot Grigio from Italy’s Delle Venezie.

Tom Seaver

Seaver Vineyards

A Baseball Hall of Famer, Seaver grows great grapes at his Napa Valley winery, taking a hands-on approach to working the land and leading his team at Seaver Vineyards. The 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon from his Diamond Mountain property was recently bottled and can be purchased through the winery’s online store.

Greg Norman

Greg Norman Estates

Legendary golfer Greg Norman’s appreciation for wine has evolved into an international wine business, with offerings that include Aussie Shirazes, California Chardonnays and even a sparkler. Norman works directly with his winemakers to determine the style of each blend at Greg Norman Estates.

Dan Aykroyd

Dan Ackroyd Wines

Aykroyd, one of the vaunted Blues Brothers, is bringing cool-climate Canadian wines to the world. The actor, writer and comedian consults on all of the offerings at Dan Aykroyd Wines—including a Cabernet Sauvignon-Cabernet Franc- Merlot blend, Chardonnay and icewine—which are produced by Diamond Estates in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario.

Drew Bledsoe

Doubleback Wine

Bledsoe, a former star NFL quarterback, returned to his roots in Walla Walla, Washington, to plant his estate vineyard and launch Doubleback in 2007. The first two vintages have been wins—both selling out quickly. To sample the 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon, order online or visit Doubleback’s new tasting room, which is open for tastings by appointment only.

Dave Matthews

The Dreaming Tree

Matthews, lead singer of the Dave Matthews Band, will have wine and music fans alike “under the table and drinking” with offerings from his The Dreaming Tree label. Released in 2011, the foodfriendly Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Crush—a proprietary Merlot-Zinfandel blend—are bottled using eco-conscious methods and are made from grapes grown on California’s North and Central coasts.
