Mixology à la Mode

Skyy Vodka is the must-have liquid trend at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.

Published:

This week, designers are unveiling their latest looks for next spring and summer collections at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Spring 2013 in New York City. And while all eyes are on the catwalk, it’s not just about the clothes. At official receptions and in VIP lounges, Skyy Vodka is treating fashion fans to four signature cocktails that celebrate next year’s trends: classic, romantic, glam and progressive. Even if you aren’t attending this week’s festivities, you can mix up your own fashion-forward sip at home.

Bohemian Classic

This sipper reinvents the classic daiquiri with a touch of apple juice and freshly muddled raspberries. Honey-sugar crystals are an earthy alternative to the typical sugared rim.

Honey sugar, for rimming (available at www.mamahealthy.com or specialty stores)
Orange peel, chopped, for rimming
Lemon wedge, for rimming
2 ounces Skyy Vodka
2 ounces apple juice
½ ounce lemon juice
½ ounce simple syrup
6 raspberries

Combine the honey sugar and orange peel on a flat surface. Wet the rim of a cocktail glass with the lemon wedge, then dip and twist the rim into the orange peel mixture to coat. When finished, chill the glass.

In a cocktail shaker, combine the vodka, juices, simple syrup and raspberries, and muddle. Add ice, and shake to combine. Strain the drink into the prepared cocktail glass.

Futuristic Fashionista

This progressive libation employs red raspberry vinegar—an easy take on the cocktail shrub trend, which adds a tangy complexity that goes beyond predictable citrus.

Gold sugar, for rimming
Lemon wedge, for rimming
2 ounces Skyy Vodka
1 ounce lemon juice
5 red grapes
¼ ounce red raspberry vinegar

Pour the gold sugar on a flat surface. Wet the rim of a cocktail glass with the lemon wedge, then dip and twist the rim into the gold sugar to coat. When finished, chill the glass.

In a cocktail shaker, combine the vodka, lemon juice and grapes, and muddle. Add ice, and shake until the mixture is chilled. Strain the cocktail into the prepared cocktail glass and add the vinegar.

Enchanting Kiss

Decadent and romantic, this cocktail is a glass of creamy, dreamy deliciousness. It also makes a fabulous liquid dessert alternative.

1½ ounces Skyy Vodka
½ ounce white crème de cacao
¼ ounce simple syrup
½ ounce heavy cream
¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
Chocolate flakes, for garnish

In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, combine the vodka, crème de cacao, simple syrup, cream and cinnamon. Shake vigorously to chill, then strain the mixture into a chilled cocktail glass. Sprinkle the drink with the chocolate flakes.

Catwalk Queen

This simple tipple is as easy to mix up as it is glamorous to drink. The honey solution adds the perfect touch of sweetness.

2 ounces Skyy Vodka
1 ounce lemon juice
1½ ounces white cranberry juice
½ ounce honey solution (equal parts honey and water)
½ ounce triple sec

Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker filled with ice and shake. Double strain mixture into a martini glass.

Wine on the Catwalk

This season, red wine drinkers are style setters, too. Red-wine-colored clothes from blazers and dresses to boots and accessories are all the rage. Burgundy is the only splash of color in Alexander Wang’s black-and-white collection, and other designers like Cynthia Rowley and Jill Stuart are reaching for the wine rack as inspiration for their fall 2012 pieces.

But it doesn’t stop there. Syrah-hued lip glosses are also in high demand. Dolce & Gabbana’s Ultra, Clarins’s Joli Rouge Long-Wearing Moisturizing Lipstick in Plum, Too Faced’s La Crème in Divine Wine and Revlon’s Super Lustrous Matte Lipstick in Wine Not all promise to leave luscious lip prints on your stemware.
