Kobrand Corporation, a U.S. importer of fine wine and spirits, added the Argentine producer Alta Vista to its portfolio, marking Kobrand’s first venture into the premium Malbec category. Kobrand’s other clients include Cakebread Cellars, Tenuta San Guido (makers of Sassicaia) and Fladgate Partnership Ports.
Research conducted by University of Illinois psychologists found that men who consumed two pints of beer before attempting brain teasers performed better than men in the nondrinking group who the same riddles. The drinking group solved nearly 40% more problems than the nondrinking group; it took the drinking group an average of 12 seconds to solve the problems compared to the 15.5 seconds the nondrinking group needed.
Bacardi USA has added a new flavor to its Grey Goose Vodka line, Cherry Noir. The new product uses black cherries that are sourced from orchards surrounding Itxassou, a village in southwest France. Retailing for $30 per 750-ml bottle.
On Thursday, April 12, Napa Valley producer Sterling Vineyards announced that Senior Winemaker Harry Hansen will collaborate with wine consultant Paul Hobbs on the winery’s Sterling Reserve and Platinum wines.
Portugal’s largest wine company, Sogrape Vinhos, has acquired Spain’s Bodegas LAN from the private equity firm, Mercapital. The acquisition includes Bodegas LAN’s main operations in Rioja, as well as its brands from Rías Baixas, Ribera del Duero and Rueda. The purchase price remains undisclosed.
