Wilson Daniels, a leading U.S. importer of fine wines, has been named the sole U.S. importer for Maison Pierre Sparr Successeurs, a grower-producer from Alsace, France. The partnership is slated to go into effect starting July 2012.
Journalist Risa Wyatt was recognized as a 2011 Excellence in Craft winner at the 2012 Northwest Outdoor Writers Association’s conference held from April 27–29 in Bend, Oregon. Wente Family Estates, a leading producer in Livermore, California, has launched its newest brand, Double Decker, which consists of three wines: Red Blend (Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Sirah and Barbera), Pinot Grigio and Zinfandel. All three wines will retail for $10 each. Along with Double Decker, Wente Family Estates’s portfolio includes Wente Vineyards, Murrieta’s Well, entwine and Hayes Ranch.
According to Siobhan Turner, executive director of the Institute of Masters of Wine (IMW), Pancho Campo—the first Spanish master of wine—has resigned from the institute. Campo’s resignation follows the allegations that his company, the Wine Academy of Spain, had been charging Spanish wineries for access to Jay Miller, wine critic at The Wine Advocate.
According to public records, Gallo Vineyards has purchased approximately 377 acres of vineyard land in Monterey County, California. The property, known as Force Canyon, was sold to Gallo by Silverado Premium Partners for $18 million.
Terlato Wines has acquired the U.S. importing and marketing rights to Marnier-Lapostolle’s wine portfolio, which includes Lapostolle from Chile and Château de Sancerre from France. The wines of Marnier-Lapostolle were previously distributed by Moët Hennessy USA. The new agreement is slated to go into effect July 1.
The family-owned and -operated wine-and-spirits giant W.J. Deutsch & Sons, Ltd., has been renamed Deutsch Family Wine & Spirits, a move to better reflect the company’s values, business model and further expansion into the spirits industry. The name change is effective immediately.
