Wine Enthusiast’s European Editor Roger Voss was granted the prestigious 28th international Bordeaux Prix de la Presse award today in Paris for his accomplishments in wine journalism. The laureate recognizes writers and critics for their extensive media work as well as producers of Bordeaux. Voss is the first American-media journalist to be presented with the accolade.

“I was surprised and pleased to receive the award,” says Voss. “It recognizes Wine Enthusiast’s commitment to tasting and reviewing wines that are affordable, particularly Bordeaux wines that are very drinkable, good values and should be more available in American shops and restaurants.”

A Wine Enthusiast contributing editor since 1997, the London native reports in Bordeaux and other French regions, covering news and trends as well as submitting reviews for the Buying Guide for both American and Chinese editions of the magazine. Additionally, Voss writes about and rates wines from Portugal. In Bordeaux, he is a member of two regional wine-based organizations, Jurade de Saint-Émilion and Commanderie du Bontemps de Médoc et des Graves, de Sauternes et Barsac.

A prolific writer and reviewer, Voss has tasted and rated more 3,000 Bordeaux wines in just the last four years, and is the author of several regional wine books, including Wine and Food of France (Antique Collectors Club), Wines of the Loire (Mitchell Beazley) and Wines of the Loire (Faber & Faber), and pocket guides to the Loire, Alsace and Rhône, Port, Sherry, Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. He has also contributed to several wine encyclopedias.

Voss joins a small group of honored Bordeaux wine critics presented the Prix de la Presse: previous winners of the international laureate include Jancis Robinson, MW, Steven Spurrier and Kevin Zraly.
