Court of Master Sommeliers Inducts Five New Members

The esteemed organization welcomed five new Master Sommeliers who passed the notoriously difficult exam.

On May 21, The Court of Master Sommeliers, Americas inducted five new members into its ranks of Master Sommeliers: Andrew Myers, Alexander LaPratt, Pascaline Lepeltier, Jarad Slipp and Lindsey Whipple.

Sommelier at Washington, D.C.’s CityZen, Myers began his career at the Inn at Little Washington at 25, followed by five years at Restaurant Nora in Washington State.

Partner and beverage director of Atrium in Brooklyn’s DUMBO neighborhood, LaPratt previously worked at Jean-Georges, DB Bistro Moderne and Michael Mina’s now-shuttered SaltWater and Bourbon Steak. He is also the 2011 winner of the American Sommelier Association’s Best Sommelier in America competition.

Lepeltier, a 2013 alum of Wine Enthusiast’s Top 40 Under 40 Tastemakers, hails from France’s Loire Valley and is wine director at New York City’s Rouge Tomate. Prior to her career in wine, Lepeltier was on track for a life in academia (she has a Masters degree in Philosophy) before deciding to switch gears.

Slipp is the estate director at Virginia’s RdV Vineyards, where he works in the vineyard and cellar and as brand ambassador. Slipp was previously restaurant director of CityZen.

Whipple, of Vegas Vine in Las Vegas, studied beverage hospitality at the University of Las Vegas before entering the wine industry in both retail and restaurant capacities, including a stint as sommelier at Wolfgang Puck’s Cut steakhouse.

Held at The Little Nell in Aspen, Colorado and sponsored by the Court of Master Sommeliers, Americas, the by-invitation MS exam was attempted by 65 individuals from 18 states and two countries.
