Australian drinks giant Foster’s announced that it will split its beer and wine businesses over the next 12 months.

Revolution LLC, the investment company created by AOL co-founder Steve Case, is taking a stake in Internet wine seller Vinfolio in a bid to transform the privately held firm into the "eBay of fine wines." Terms were not disclosed.
 
Sad news: The E. & J. Gallo Winery announced that Albion Fenderson, its first sales manager and a trusted confidant of Ernest and Julio Gallo, passed away in Modesto, CA, at the age of 96.

Acclaimed filmmaker Ken Burns will examine America during the Prohibition years in a new documentary to be released in 2011, “Forbidden Fruit.”

Whiskey retailer Masters of Malt introduced a “Drinks by the Dram” program, selling 30ml samples from full-sized whiskey bottles.

A new website will allow winemakers to rate their distributors and publish distributor reviews.
