Burgundy has La Paulée, Beaujolais has Nouveau, Languedoc a summer annual Festival…Bordeaux has a coveted annual Fête de la Fleur but you have to go to Bordeaux and most importantly, be invited. This is about to change: on February 22, 2013, the interior of St. Bartholomew’s Church will morph into a majestic setting for the first annual BurdiGala (Latin name of the City of Bordeaux), a tasting and gala dinner prepared by Chef Alain Ducasse, uniting Bordeaux collectors and enthusiasts around 12 of the best Bordeaux Châteaux. Their owners will be flying to New York to showcase 3 vintages of their top wines while each guest will be asked to bring a special Bordeaux bottle from their own cellar to share with their peers. The day will be composed of an afternoon walk around tasting at Café St. Bart, where each of the 12 producers will be showcasing 3 vintages of their top wine: Châteaux Clos Fourtet, Cos D’Estournel, d’Issan, d’Yquem, Ducru Beaucaillou, Gruaud Larose, Haut Bailly, Lynch Bages, Palmer, Pichon Longueville, Comtesse de Lalande, Pontet Canet and Smith Haut Lafitte. At night, St‐Bartholomew’s church itself will be transformed into a gorgeous dining room for the evening, removing its benches for the first time in 200 years. Legendary Chef Alain Ducasse himself has cleared his calendar for the occasion: he will personally be preparing the feast with his New York staff. The evening will start with a cocktail reception, followed by dinner and live entertainment. The setting promises to provide an unforgettable experience of wine sharing and dining. All proceeds will go towards scholarships for Master Sommelier and Master of Wine programs. Tickets are available at http://www.burigala‐nyc.com.
