The opening whiffs pick up luscious aromas of nutmeg, cinnamon and white raisins; further aeration introduces traces of hard cheese, oak/vanillin, dried fruit, black pepper and almond paste. At palate entry the early-on taste includes nuts and butter cream; the viscous texture and nut butter/oaky/maple-like flavor is highlighted at midpalate. Finishes regally without any alcohol heat and plenty of lip-smacking sautéed almond. In a word, scrumptious. P.P.

What Is Blind Tasting?

All tastings reported in the Buying Guide are performed blind. Typically, products are tasted in peer-group flights of from 5-8 samples. Reviewers may know general information about a flight to provide context—vintage, variety or appellation—but never the producer or retail price of any given selection. When possible, products considered flawed or uncustomary are retasted.
