As a side project alongside the Mari Vineyards wines, this is the first release of winemaker Sean O'Keefe's Scriptorium line. Blending Blaufränkisch, Zweigelt and Lagrein, this cool-climate red boasts dark cherry and raspberry laced with pink peppercorn and cedar oil. There's ample concentration of fruit on the palate, with lively acidity and crushed stone keeping things light.
Formerly working in the Finger Lakes wine region of upstate New York, Peartree's passion for terroir-expressive products, which spans from wine to cider and tea, is only rivaled by his love of canoeing and hiking. He prefers to focus on wines from Virginia, Michigan, Texas and other smaller U.S. regions, as well as domestic and international cider.
