Thunderbird Artists, producer of Carefree Arizona’s ‘Signature Art Events’, are proud to feature Debra Steidel, fine porcelain master, as featured artist for the 20th Annual Carefree Fine Art & Wine Festival, November 1st, 2nd & 3rd, 2013. This award-winning festival will highlight more than 165 juried fine artists, live musical entertainers, savory food, delectable chocolate and unparalleled wine tasting.
Debra discovered her lifelong passion when she was just 18 years old and has pursued an art career ever since. Her specialty is porcelain clay and every creation is an original design, which are made individually. Each piece begins as a ball of porcelain and is then formed on the potters’ wheel. When the piece has reached a hard leather-like state, a “foot” is trimmed on the bottom, which refines the profile of the vessel. Once thoroughly dried, each piece is placed in a kiln to be fired at a low temperature called “bisque“; hardening them just enough to handle the process of glazing. After being removed from the kiln, the glaze is applied and the ware is fired once more to approximately 2300 degrees. It is the crystalline glaze that finalizes transcendence of each vessel. These random crystal formations can best be described as “frost growing on a window pane“, producing a true one-of-a-kind art piece.
In conjunction with Debra Steidel, the Carefree Fine Art & Wine festival hosts 165 other juried fine artists, offering connoisseurs and art enthusiasts a unique opportunity to spend time, directly with the artists, and explore each one’s works. The wineries provide a wonderful selection of national and international wines for the discriminating and aspiring palette. For $10, patrons will receive an engraved souvenir wine glass with six tasting tickets; allowing them to enjoy magnificent wine, while strolling amongst 5,000+ pieces of original artwork. Local musicians play continuously all three days, providing a final touch to the already unparalleled ambience of the festival. “Through the 20 years we have been producing this festival, we have heard from patrons that they attend all three days because they simply cannot see everything in just one,” states Denise Dale, President of Thunderbird Artists. “Our festivals have become primary destinations for art lovers and enthusiasts alike. We see ourselves as ambassadors of the arts - bringing the artists and patrons together.”
The festival will take place in downtown Carefree, at 101 Easy Street. Hours are 10am to 5pm each day. Admission is $3.00 and Carefree residents are free. Parking is free all weekend. Don’t miss the opportunity to enjoy all that the Carefree Fine Art & Wine Festival has to offer!
