The West Town Chamber of Commerce invites you to cap off summer with a day dedicated to Chicago’s foodie scene. The 2013 Chicago Food Social on Saturday, September 21st in the parking lot of Kendall College (900 N. Branch) is the re-concepted replacement for the highly successful Food Truck Social of 2011 & 2012, which attracted over 20,000. The new event will still feature a selection of the best local food trucks, plus to round out the experience, will now also present a curated group of notable chef-driven restaurant vendors, chef demonstrations, and live music programmed by Empty Bottle Presents. Prominent special guest celebrity chefs will present live preparation demos and provide selections of their creations.
“Like a great chef who continues to try recipes, our new concept will offer Chicago something fresh and different,” says West Town Chamber Executive Director Kara Salgado. “With Chicago Food Social, we’re combining the popularity of pop-up restaurants, celebrity chefs and food trucks with the established Chicago street fest model. Top it off with a touch of academia in Kendall College, and the result will be an event that is well-rounded, suitable for all tastes!”
Benefiting Share Our Strength, a national non-profit attempting to end childhood hunger in America, Chicago Food Social will bring together food aficionados in an affordable ($5 admission fee), accessible, and entertaining manner. The featured chefs and restaurants invited to participate will not be typical “street fest” vendors, but rather hand-selected by a Chicago Michelin-starred restaurateur. Chef demonstrations will take place in between band set times on a stage adjacent to the Empty Bottle Presents live music stage. Communal dining will set the scene with plenty of shaded seating at long rows of picnic tables, with some of the best food trucks from previous Food Truck Socials participating, such as Wagyu Wagon, Tamale Spaceship, and Beyond Borders. Big Star, Publican Quality Meats and Longman and Eagle are just a few of the restaurants which are anticipated to participate.
The full food truck, restaurant, and guest chef lineup will be announced at a later date. Vendor applications are now being accepted.
The superb culinary skills from some of the top students at the nationally acclaimed Kendall College will be on display, as Kendall College will feature (TBA).
Complimenting the exceptional culinary experience will be: premium beer and wine offerings; a special sponsoring spirits area featuring liquor samples and notable local bartenders and their signature cocktails; select local artist and retail vendors; and live musical entertainment programmed by West Town’s own, Empty Bottle Presents (bands lineup TBA). Plus, Paperish Mess, a West Town retailer, is curating a unique retail vendor area featuring a group of hand-selected local artists, handmade crafts, vintage items and more.
