At The Garagiste Festival: Southern Exposure you will discover wines and winemakers that are likely new to you. With their annual production under 1500 total cases, the majority of the participating wineries do not have tasting rooms and most are difficult to find in stores and restaurants.
You have to know where to look.
We have made it our mission to seek out these exciting winemakers and make them available to you in one place, on one day. This is a unique opportunity to taste over 150 under-the-radar wines from the Santa Ynez Valley over 2 days - and it’s not all Pinot and Chardonnay. Both days will feature completely different wineries. Over 20 different grape varieties will be represented, not to mention all the various blends. The wines will be poured by the dedicated vintners themselves who are thrilled to share not only their wines, but their passion and story as well.
Each day begins with an enteraining and educational seminar. This year's topics include:
"Rhones Rule: The Wines of Ballard Canyon"
Seminar and Tasting with Michael Larner of Larner Vineyards, Larry Schaffer of Tercero Wines and Mikael Sigouin of Kaena Wine Company.
Santa Barbara is not all about Pinot and Chardonnay. Wineries located in Ballard Canyon are on the forefront of the CA Rhone movement - especially Syrah and Grenache - and you'll get to taste and learn what makes this new AVA so special with three very talented and entertaining winemakers. They are making some of the most noteworthy offerings from vineyards located within this AVA and they are going to share their wine, their experience and many opinions about why Rhones Rule in Ballard. Only 90 seats available.
"A Pinot Noir Primer from the Roots Up"
Seminar and Tasting with Joshua Klapper from La Fenetre Wines, Adam LaZarre from LaZarre Wines and Clarissa Nagy from C. Nagy Wines.
In this seminar, we delve into one of the world's oldest grape varieties and why it's one of the most challenging grapes to grow. Unlike most other major varieties, Pinot Noir likes to mutate giving winemakers a plethora of different clones to choose from. We'll explore the various growing regions in the Santa Ynez Valley and what makes them special/different from one another; why choosing the right clone is so important and the qualities each brings to the bottle, along with the winemaking challenges of the "heartbreak" grape. Only 90 seats available.
Over 50 wineries all in one place? Sounds like heaven to us.
