In March, she opened Backbeat, a two-story cocktail bar, with husband Michael Sanders in Austin’s thriving South Lamar district. While the pair’s first bar, drink.well, seats just 37 and offers a concise cocktail menu, Backbeat boasts room for 100 and a dynamic wine list. That includes a Champagne program with a rotating selection of grower producers and a “break-even bubbles” program that offers select wines at cost. With a reputation for inventive cocktails that use trendy bases like vermouth and rhum agricole, the two bars are at the top of Austin’s tippling game.
