This is a big, bold black IPA that isn't shy on aromas or flavors. Jet black in color, assertive notes of roasted malt, coffee, toasted bread and chocolate abound, with additional hop accents of pine resin, orange rind and grapefruit zest adding verve and lift to the otherwise rich, dense profile and medium-weight mouthfeel. The finish is long and laced with decadent roasted hazelnut and chocolate-covered orange flavors. Lauren Buzzeo

What Is Blind Tasting?

All tastings reported in the Buying Guide are performed blind. Typically, products are tasted in peer-group flights of from 5-8 samples. Reviewers may know general information about a flight to provide context—vintage, variety or appellation—but never the producer or retail price of any given selection. When possible, products considered flawed or uncustomary are retasted.
