Italian Wine Exports to U.S. Reach $1 Billion Mark

For the first time in history, Italian wine exports to the U.S. surpassed the $1 billion mark, according to 2006 statistics from the Italian Wine & Food Institute in New York. Exports of over 52 million gallons of Italian wine in 2006 eclipsed amounts exported by Australia and France.

The findings coincide with three large-scale Italian trade and press wine tasting events that the institute is hosting this month: “SuperTuscan and the Other Great Wines of Tuscany” and “New York Italian Food & Wine Gala” will be held on February 13 and 15 in New York City, respectively; and “Los Angeles Italian Wine Gala” will be held on February 21 in Los Angeles.

The events will feature hundreds of top Italian wines and dishes from lauded Italian restaurants in the two cities. For more information, go to www.italianwineandfoodinstitute.com.
