More than 4,000 attendees, 125 restaurants and 90 vintners from around the world participated in this year’s Spinazzola Gala Festival of Food and Wine, held at Boston’s Seaport World Trade Center on February 9. In its 22nd year, the black-tie walkaround food and wine tasting (and silent auction) benefits culinary scholarship assistance and hunger relief agencies throughout New England. The Foundation was created by Boston Globe food and wine writer Anthony Spinazzola in 1985, and over the years has donated a million dollars to both culinary scholarships and hunger relief.
The event featured a live band, elegant décor, and food and wine stations from gourmet restaurants and wineries from around the world, including known names such as Moët & Chandon, Kendall-Jackson and Chateau Ste. Michelle. Celebrity chefs, among them Thomas Keller, Roy Yamaguchi and Francois Payard, attended the event and participated in seminars held during the gala. Cuisine ranged from seafood delicacies to Indian fusion dishes, as well as artisanal cheeses and desserts.
The Boston Wine Expo took place at the Seaport on February 10. Intended for both trade and consumers, the walkaround tasting featured international food and wine, showcasing existing brands such as New York’s Bedell Cellars and California’s Matanzas Creek Winery, as well as new products like Gallo’s South African line, Sebeka, which was debuted at the event.
