It ’s said that when man and nature work together to create great things, the rewards may exceed all expectations. Such is the case with Rémy Martin’s new and most exclusive bottling ever, Louis XIII Rare Cask 43,8 Cognac. Identified by Cellar Master Pierrette Trichet in 2004, this selection represents the first time in the history of Louis XIII that one cask has been bottled and sold as a special edition offering. A blend of 1,200 eaux-de-vie aged between 40 and 100 years within one special cask, the 43,8 designation references the alcohol content as it is uniquely above the standard 40% found in traditional Louis XIII. But the differences don’t end there; one can find slightly different accents or spikes in the Rare Cask not found in Louis XIII. The packaging is almost as marvelous and ground-breaking as the Cognac itself, with a first-ever opaque black crystal decanter from Baccarat with hand detailing and palladium dressing. Only 786 bottles are available worldwide, with 30 rationed to the U. S., at around $15,000/750 ml bottle.
