Douglas Murray, 68, a co-founder of Chilean winery Montes S.A. and a leading proponent of Chile’s commitment over the past two decades to increased wine exportation, died June 30 in Chile after an extended bout with cancer.
Murray was a global visionary who embraced the idea that Chile could be a leading international wine producer and exporter. He is credited with opening markets in Asia, India and elsewhere off the beaten path. Along with namesake co-founder and winemaker Aurelio Montes, Murray was instrumental in Montes S.A. becoming a multifaceted, multitiered powerhouse with sales in 72 countries worldwide.
