Scotch whisky exports surged 22% by dollar volume in the six-month period ending in June 2011, according to the Scotch Whisky Association (SWA). The US remains the top export market for Scotch, followed by France. Meanwhile, emerging markets in Asia and South America are becoming increasingly important to Scotch producers, the SWA said, with Taiwan entering the top five export market for Scotch for the first time.

According to The Daily Sip, Washington D.C. consumes the most wine per capita (6.6 gallons, to be exact), followed by New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Vermont and Nevada. Foreign embassies and their ample entertaining budgets may explain the strong consumption in D.C., the blog speculated.
