The Brewers Association Elects New Chairman

The Brewers Association (BA), a nonprofit trade group that promotes the nation’s small and independent brewers, has announced its 2012 board of directors, including newly elected chairman Sam Calagione, founder and president of Delaware’s Dogfish Head Craft Brewery. Patz & Hall in Napa, California, has appointed James McCeney as the winery’s new assistant winemaker. McCeney most recently served as assistant winemaker at Napa Valley’s Acacia Winery.

Christie’s auction house has decided to end its project that aimed to translate the names of Bordeaux’s classified chateaus into Chinese for a poster to be used during the en premier tastings this April. While the Chinese translations were intended to strengthen the connection between Bordeaux and China, a statement from Christie’s Hong Kong office expressed the project had the opposite effect.

Whisky giant Glenmorangie has signed a three-year partnership with the British Open golf tournament. As the fourth-largest single-malt Scotch brand in the world, Glenmorangie will serve as the official whisky for the tournament. This year’s event will take place at Britain’s Royal Lytham & St. Annes Golf Club from July 15–22.

French winemaker François Lurton has sold his ownership stake in Quinta do Malhô and Quinta Beira Douro, two Portuguese estates. Lurton sold his share to minority partner Cap Wine International, which previously held a 40% stake.
