Napa Valley, California’s Domaine Chandon has launched a limited-edition, patriotic sparkler in commemoration of the 2012 Olympics. The NV Brut Classic is made using Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, blended with 10–20% reserve wines from previous vintages. Retailing for $24/750 ml, the wine comes in a red-, white- and blue-striped bottle and will be available throughout the summer in the United States.
The Napa Valley, California-based Trinchero Family Estates (TFE) has added Cruz Tequila to its portfolio, marking the wine company’s expansion into the spirit category. In August, TFE will begin limited distribution of Cruz’s Silver and Reposado Tequilas. Made from 100% pure blue agave, the Tequila comes in hand-numbered, artisan-blown glass bottles.
On Sunday, July 22, Frank Indelicato Sr. of Napa Valley, California’s Delicato Family Vineyards (DFV) passed away at the age of 87. The second-generation member of DFV handed over the day-to-day operations at 83, but remained active in the business, serving as a member of DFV’s board of directors.
St. Helena, California-based Pahlmeyer winery has appointed Kale Anderson director of winemaking for its Napa Valley vineyard and operations and Bibiana González Rave consulting winemaker for its Sonoma Coast vineyard and operations. Anderson brings more than 10 years of winemaking experience, including working with industry greats such as Mark Aubert and Philippe Melka. Rave was most recently winemaker at Lynmar Estate in Sonoma and has also worked at Peay and Qupé.
Napa Valley, California’s PlumpJack Winery has appointed Aaron Miller as head winemaker. Miller comes to PlumpJack with a Bachelor of Science in biological science and a Master of Science in viticulture and enology from the University of California, Davis. He has more than 12 years of international experience, including winemaking positions at Lewis Cellars in Napa Valley and Marchesi Antinori’s Tenuta Tignanello in Tuscany.
