Thursday, July 11, 200 sommeliers, restaurateurs and journalists gathered to celebrate Wine Enthusiast Magazine’s Top 100 Wine Restaurants of 2013.
As the sun set, guests ascended elevators to the NoMad’s rooftop tent, lit by the glow of chandeliers and candles. With the mercury at nearly 100°F, the gourmands quickly beelined for cool and refreshing Mionetto Prosecco and Livio Felluga Friulano, while representatives of the restaurants on the list (including NoMad) were honored with Top 100 Wine Restaurant plaques in the space’s cupola.
Revelers dined on delicious passed bites of butter-cloaked radishes with fleur de sel; tuna tartare with lemon, black olive and egg; and sweetbread croustillant, or queued up to sample NoMad’s fried chicken and buttermilk biscuits, complete with maple syrup and hot sauce.
Meanwhile, dapper mixologists clad in double-breasted vests and ties ensured a good time was had by all. Leo Robitschek, NoMad’s bar manager and one of WE’s 40 Under 40, worked with event sponsors Mionetto and Bacardi to craft the fête’s signature drinks like the Dark + Bubbly, an update on the classic with explosively flavorful house-made ginger beer and Mionetto Prosecco. The Vodka Maid (Grey Goose, lime juice, cucumber, mint and salt) was a crowd favorite, as was the Bacardi Pineapple Infusion cocktail.
Throughout the night, guests were treated to the soulful crooning of Carte Blanche, a vintage revivalist jazz group specializing in ‘20s, ‘30s and French standards.
